| INFORMATION ABOUT
ME:
Cookbook
collecting is a hobby of mine, which I started when I got married in 1958. This hobby has
grown to a collection of 6,000 cookbooks. The majority of cookbooks are organizational.
The books that mean a great deal to me are those from humane societies or animal and
military organizations. I have turned my recreation room into a library with 14 bookcases
housing my books. There is nothing that can compare to reading cookbooks.
The
books that are listed are duplicates and triplicates from my collection. In 1991 I wrote a
book called "What's Cookin'. I asked all of my co-workers for some of their favorite
recipes, one of our patients was asked to do the artwork, and I diligently typed the book
in WordPerfect 5.1. Every bit of typing was done at home and I paid for the printing of
the book. There are 300 recipes and numerous food facts with original artwork. The profits
were to go to the Montgomery County Humane Society which is a love of mine, having done 6
years of volunteer work and adopted 2 dogs from them. What's Cookin' is also listed as a
book for sale.
INFORMATION ABOUT CHEN & SNO:
Chen is a
shorthaired Border collie who was a Montgomery County Humane Society resident before she
became a member of my family. She was an abused dog when the Montgomery County Humane
society rescued her. Her name was to be Chien (meaning dog in French) but my
veterinarian didn't know how to spell the word correctly, and the spelling, Chen stuck. At
the time I adopted her she weighed 28 pounds; and today she weighs 55 pounds. Chen was
born July 4, 1991 and I adopted her June 27, 1992. Chen was an uncontrolled dog when I
adopted her, we enrolled in obedience training and in October 1992 she came in third in
the Country trials. Which made the both of us very proud.
Today Chen is an
absolutely delightful dog, well trained and a joy to have.
Sno is a mixed
terrier who with her 5 siblings was put in a box, when they were about 6 weeks old (or so
we thought) and left in front of the Commissary at Quantico Marine Base. We had just had
some snow that's how she got the name Sno. This was February 16, 1995. At the time of her
being found she weighed 5 pounds 2 ounces and is now about 45 pounds. She is a little on
the rotund size, despite all the diets she has been on. She just likes to eat.
Chen had been an
only dog for 3 years and I didn't know how the two of them would react together. As it
turned out they are good friends. Many times they are running together in the
backyard or preening one another.
I never thought I'd
want 2 dogs, but I discovered that I love it and find myself taking them with me whenever
I am able. I am happy with "my girls," as I refer to them. |
